“The piece below was written and inspired by a one hour interview with the TPR Team. Thankful to be amplifying them and their unique and powerful story.” - Sophie Wang (Founder of Humanize)

“After we moved to the United States from Malaysia as Burmese refugees with our family, we started working multiple jobs at warehouses and factories.

We realized it often felt like there was not much room for improvement or a way to better our situation, so we decided opening a business seemed like the right path – not just to improve our own lives, but to create freedom and opportunity within our community as well.

Our first idea was to open a restaurant, but due to financial constraints, it wasn’t feasible, so we opened up a coffee shop instead.” - TPR Family

Hear from Rebecca’s daughter, Dorcas who helps run TPR,

“Working with my family has pushed me out of my comfort zone, helped me become more confident, and learn how to talk to new people.

I used to be nervous to use my voice and afraid of my words coming out wrong. However being the oldest child in a Burmese family household comes with a lot of responsibilities and expectations, and allows me to be an example for my siblings.

If I can share my voice regularly, they are going to be more confident in doing so too. I’m excited to see more people come to the cafe and excited to get to know the customers better.” - Dorcas
